Management Team
AFE’s seasoned management team is comprised of some of the most experienced professionals in the field of renewable energy infrastructure development, project finance, legal and regulatory affairs, and facility management and operations.
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Maloney is a senior executive with over 27 years of P&L experience
in start-up, mid-sized, and Fortune 500 companies including Asea Brown Boveri,
Edison Mission Energy, Unicom/Commonwealth Edison and Thomson Financial. He
joined AFE as Chairman and CEO in early 2009. Mr. Maloney has extensive global
corporate management and operations experience in the energy, environmental
and financial services sectors, building and transforming businesses across
the globe for more than two decades. Mr. Maloney has developed and/or financed numerous energy related businesses in the United States, Africa and Europe. He holds a BS in Engineering from the University of Illinois.
President
Mr. VanKorn is a senior executive with over 15 years of operating P&L experience. Mr. VanKorn has a proven track record providing the energy, commercial and industrial sectors with access to capital. Specializing in structured vendor finance, Mr. VanKorn has successfully implemented long-term strategic funding programs for both domestic and international OEM’s and their distribution networks, and he currently chairs the board of Alliance Capital Corp. Mr. VanKorn holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Executive VP – Project Development and Operations
Mr. Niemann is a 30-year veteran of the energy industry and will provide project development support for AFE Global and serve as Project Manager of the Apollo Energy Project. He has significant experience in both fossil and renewable electric power development with both utility and IPP companies. Founder and President of North Ridge Resources LLC, Ken specializes in project origination, siting, permitting, design, contracts, schedule and budget development, and operations and maintenance. Formerly a Regional VP of Business Management for Edison Mission Energy, Mr. Niemann also held positions with Potomac Electric Power Company, the National Center for Resource Recovery in Washington, D.C., and Combustion Engineering. He holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia.
Executive VP – Land Acquisition and Site Development
Mr. Hiller, Founder and President of the Hiller Company has joined AFE America as a strategic partner and investor. Mr. Hiller will provide land use, acquisition and development services that will assist in the ongoing development of the AFE Americas-Apollo Project and other AFE Global opportunities. He is a recognized leader in land acquisition and property development throughout SE Wisconsin and is a City of Milwaukee award winner for new building design innovation. Mr. Hiller has over 22 years of experience analyzing development opportunities and securitized real estate investments throughout the United States and owns properties in Wisconsin and Texas. He has a BS in Economics and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, an MA from Trinity University, and an MEd from Marquette University.
VP, Government & Legislative Affairs
Mr. Brooks is the Owner/President of Brooks Consulting LLC. Prior to starting his own lobbying firm, Mr. Brooks spent four years at Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek Government Affairs a subsidiary of Whtye Hirschboeck Dudek SC in Wisconsin. Mr. Brooks specializes in creating and implementing a fully integrated government relation’s strategy, which best helps to advance the interests of his clients. By combining legislative and political strategy with grassroots initiatives and public relations, Mr. Brooks advises a broad spectrum of organizations and associations helping them navigate the world of government. Mr. Brooks has worked extensively with State associations and their executives helping them to better understand the inner workings of State government and providing insight on the legislative process enabling them to develop and execute a successful legislative strategy.
VP Business Development/Europe
Mr. Newby is a senior executive with over 20 years experience in strategic business development. Formerly an executive with Societe Generale in the UK, Mr. Newby joined AFE in January 2010 and is spearheading the development of renewable energy projects in Europe. Mr. Newby specializes in creating and developing unique value propositions for clients. He has worked closely with start-ups to Fortune 500 companies throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East, raising hundreds of millions of dollars for new business development during his career.
VP Business Development/Caribbean
Mr. Mossey is senior executive with extensive business development experience. He has successfully launched 5 private and publicly held companies. Mr. Mossey’s has held senior positions in sales and marketing, government affairs and strategic business planning. Before joining AFE, Mr. Mossey served as Vice President and General Manager of Government for the Thomson Corporation, a $9B electronic information/media company where he managed $200M in government contracts across multiple Thomson companies. Prior to Thomson, Mr. Mossey served as Vice President and General Manager of the Government Services Group for PRIMEDIA, a $2B publicly traded company. Previous to that, he held senior management positions with Homeland One under contract with the Department of Homeland Security, American Management Systems, Enterprise Security Group and Wade Systems LLC. After graduating from Army Officer Candidate School, Mr. Mossey earned his BS in Economics from Oklahoma State University.
VP Business Development/Asia
Mr. Sun leads AFE’s business development efforts in Asia through a strong network of senior level relationships across China—including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Shenzhen—in various industries, such as water, power, and aerospace. Mr. Sun has coordinated all AFE efforts in China since the company’s founding in 2005, and was instrumental in securing the rights for AFE from the Shandong Lineng Group to provide the engineering, procurement, limited construction, and start-up of a new 2000Mw plant. Mr. Sun received his BS in Chemistry from Peking University and his MBA from Marquette University.
